How do Massachusetts-based heating oil providers do their part in cleaning up the environment? At Coan Oil, we do our best to take traditional home heating oil and put a ‘green’ spin on it in order to clean up heating oil’s image and our planet!
Here’s how we’re helping the push to a greener future:
Bioheat® Fuel
The latest in clean, green home heating, Bioheat Fuel takes renewable resources such as agricultural byproducts and used cooking oils – known as biodiesel – and blends them with heating oil. The percentage of biodiesel varies from supplier to supplier, but at Coan Oil our customers receive a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% heating oil called B20.
Because it burns more cleanly, using Bioheat Fuel helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, too, lessening our impact on the planet!
Ultra-Low Sulfur Heating Oil
The other component of our Bioheat Fuel is ultra-low sulfur heating oil, also known as ULSHO. Sulfur content in heating oil has been significantly cut down over time, and today the maximum allowable amount of sulfur content in heating oil is 15 parts per million (ppm). This reduction in sulfur leads to healthier equipment – since sulfur content is reduced, as is sulfur buildup, a common cause of system malfunction and loss in heating efficiency.
The reduced sulfur content also contributes to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions!
As a heating oil provider, we understand Massachusetts homeowners’ comfort needs – and as residents of our beautiful planet we also understand how important it is for us to do our best to take care of the environment. Rest easy knowing that as a Coan Oil customer you’re living a greener lifestyle!
