Do you want to save energy and money? Of course, you do -- and you can start now!
Here’s a list of conservation tips you can use this spring and summer to save energy and money in every room in your home. Some don’t even require spending any money!
- Living Room: During the day, block the heat from the sun by closing curtains, shades, and drapes.
- Kitchen: Cook on the grill to keep cooking heat outside the home.
- Dining Room: Install dimmers and motion sensors wherever possible. (A dimmer will also make dinners more romantic!)
- Bedrooms: Open windows on cool summer days and nights. A good rule of thumb is not to open windows when the outside temperature is warmer than the inside of your house.
- Bathroom: Take showers instead of baths. A five-minute shower will use about 7.5 gallons of hot water; filling a bathtub can use up to 20 gallons.
- Laundry Area: Wash your clothes in the coolest water setting you can – you’ll save energy and money! When you wash in hot water, you’re using heating oil or propane to heat the water. So, keep it cool and save on fuel!
